Frequently Asked Questions

Renovating? If you are extending or renovating your home or business premises, call us to provide the necessary electrical alterations for the job. From moving a wall to adding another level to your house, we will work in with other trades to make your renovation a breeze. New Mains....Maybe Underground? We can convert overhead mains to underground mains, or install new underground mains for your new home or subdivided section. Undergrounding your mains will provide a less cluttered skyline to your home and reduce safety risks associated with high winds or obstructive trees, and exposed wires. Switchboards Get rid of your old obtrusive fuseboard with its outdated and possibly unsafe components and upgrade now to a stylish and discreet new switchboard. We can also relocate boards to a more suitable location. Old Wiring? Houses built between 1900 and 1960 were not designed for today's' multiple appliance and lighting loads, and contain either VIR (Vulcan Indianised Rubber), or TRS (Tough Rubber Sheath) wiring, and porcelain re-wirable fuses. This wiring system has been found to perish and decay very quickly, leading to hazards such as electric shock, fire, overloading, and short-circuiting. Any homes still containing this wiring should be rewired with TPS (Tough Plastic Sheath) as soon as possible, and have their fuses replaced with Circuit Breakers and Residual Current Devices, as required by law in all new homes built in Australia today. Most homes can be completely rewired within two-three days, with minimum disruption to the occupier. We offer a free safety inspection and quote, if you suspect that your home is in need of partial or complete rewiring. New Installation? Switchworx have great experience in new house wiring. We can contract direct to the builder or developer, or work with the home owner as the house is built. We carry out most contracts on a quoted price basis, which is a free service. We can wire to a specific plan, or offer a free lighting design and power layout service if required. Usually we install all wiring systems into the new home, including electrical lighting and power, telephone, data, security, and underfloor heating.
